PROBLEM

Seeing a Missing Piece...

  • Recruiters report a positive online presence influences hiring decisions.

  • BranchOut has had an explosive growth in January (10K To 250K Monthly Users, 25x). Facebook has over 800M users (as of Oct 2011).

  • Recruiters should be able to connect with a user on Facebook or BranchOut regarding a job opening they match with.

We need a tool for recruiters to better find, match, and connect the professional profiles on Facebook and BranchOut with jobs available.

IDEATION

For more candidates in the pool, we wanted a recruiter's professional network to be as large as possible on BranchOut. With the available Facebook API, we wanted to figure out how many levels deep a Facebook recruiter and their connections can go in order for them to send emails to candidates. There were many whiteboard sessions to discuss messaging and connection tactics we could use.

WORKFLOWS

To sum up the sessions, I started translating whiteboards into workflows, working with a product manager, to circulate around the team. Since the main focus of the tool was for a recruiter to connect and message a candidate regarding a job, I focused on connections and messaging first.

For the connections part, there were a range of options for CTAs. CTA to message, connect, request to connect through a friend. They varied based on the profile (1st degree, 2nd degree, etc.). We needed to create another workflow. But now there were also multiple diagrams being circulated. I decided to combine the all three types of information:

  1. The users (BranchOut, Company, Facebook users?)

  2. What are their connections in the network at the deepest level.

  3. What CTA's would be shown based on the connection level.

Taking all the pieces in, I created a single diagram to combine all the things we needed to show (users, their connections and the CTAs per user). Now only one file was being circulated for a reference.

WIREFRAMES

Some people on the team had recruitment backgrounds. They discussed additional tools a recruiter would need to make this a competitive tool (notes, reminders, posting a job, etc.). When an MVP feature list was set and use cases mapped out, I started on the wireframes.
